Holy Hammacher.

Tucked between Lexington and Third Avenues on 57th Street in New York City is a very awesome funland called Hammacher Schlemmer. Now, when you say "Hammacher Schlemmer" I feel it's important you put your back into it, if you know what I mean. Say that with purpose (and a German accent if at all possible). It is a wonderful, all-inclusive retail environment where you'll find the best of everything and the coolest doo-dads. Things you totally need but had no idea.

present picks from HS:
source.
"The Million Germ Eliminating Travel Toothbrush Sanitizer"
Every time you return to your newly cleaned hotel room and realize you left your toothbrush out. You will never really know what the maids did with it while you were out shopping. The horror.
This is for that.

source.

"The Wind Defying Packable Umbrella"
Hands down the best umbrella ever; I need a second. When I moved to New York I was quickly impressed with the need for a sturdy umbrella or mine would constantly end up on the street corner every time it rained, with the other sad umbrella skeletons. I straight up used this thing as a shield at times and it withstood the challenge. Plus, it's pretty solid so when it's packed up I'm quite sure you could use it as a beating mechanism, so to speak.

"The Jeweler's Steam Cleaner"
My jewelry looks awful and ruddy because I can never figure out a permanent cleaning solution (so so sad). So I just want to cut to the chase on this deal. What I know works is a steamer, because I'd always prefer to have my stuff cleaned at an actual Jewelry store. Though I'm sure this will end in many steam burns, having access to a steamer at all times would be very convenient. I can't handle another disappointment in this department so I hope it's awesome.

You never know what you'll find at your neighborhood Hammacher Schlemmer. Actually there's only one location plus the online store. It's a bit of an institution, having been in business since 1848; basically you should go there or at least play on the website. It's fun.

I want Wednesday: jade/seafoam/mint edish.

Ya know, there's no excuse for me to ever miss an "I want" post. All I'm ever talking about is shit I want.. need. My apologies. Personal lives appear to have a direct affect blog production.

Today I am doing a mint-themed "I want." What is it about that lovely tint of green that is a jade/seafoam/mint combo? You know the one. I always love that hue. Here are some of my favorite things recently discovered while obsessively scouring the internet for truly important products that I neither need nor can I afford. This is goin great. Enjoy.

source.
I wasn't really buying into the whole "Maharaja slipper" trend (or whatever) until I came upon these little beauties, Martini Spike by Jeffrey Campbell. Dammit, Jeffrey, chill out with the sweet shoes. I can't keep up (nor can I guarantee I won't bust my ass almost immediately upon trying to walk in a pair of those massive McQueen-esque platforms.. more on that later).

source.
I need to say little to introduce seafoam Japanese Washi tape with tiny white polka dots. A nice array of decorative Washi tapes is the adult version of a sticker collection.

source.
I'm, whoa, way into colored skinny jeans. Since my obsession in general with skinny pants is really hangin in there, the addition of color is a nice change of pace (slight change). Especially those with a nice mid-rise, ya know, I like to keep that shit nice and conservative these days. While I really enjoy the J Brand fit better (more on that later), they do not have nearly as many colors as the Joe's Jeans version. Also, Joe's has like, six shades of green. The above picture is of Atlantic & Lily Pad, the two most jade/seafoam/mint-y ones. They have, holy cow, 55 colors total. Bonita :)

source.
This 'here comes the sun' print is really nice. It's been inspiring me to paint things with green skies and tonal works in the variety of green, too. Can't get enough.

peace,

I want Wednesday.

Dammit, I want so many things every day of the week. Craaaap. Right now this Deux Lux weekend bag is at the top of my list. Look how pretty the sequined base is! I love it. I think I need the black one because I like that it is basic in the sense that it is a neutral but has a dash of fancy to it with the sequins on the bottom portion. Shit, why the hell not? I wonder what the inside looks like. I would need a nice little getaway to use this, which of course, would hold only my shoes.
Speaking of, how about these kitten heel boots by Kickers? I'm not familiar with the brand but I think I'm into it. They're super cute, possibly to the point of unattractive. But don't worry, they circle back around to cute. Just my style.

Movie Monday: Hanna.

source.
I got this damn movie for my dad for Christmas thinking it was sure to please and I was way off. Did. not. get good reviews from him. It's mine now, I guess.

I loved Hanna for some reason. It is full of action and has a very unusual storyline. Saoirse Ronan plays Hanna, the only child of an ex-CIA agent who has been simultaneously hiding out for x amount of years and teaching his daughter to be an assassin. They have an enemy. Something happened to Hanna's mother and Eric Bana's wife. What is it?! Go.

it's Monday,

Walking in the Air.

I am sorry to tell you we cannot be friends if you are not obsessed with 1982's animated, silent, but with a brief intro by David Bowie, film, The Snowman. I just realized that would really limit my companions so I may have to reconsider. Seriously, though, it is so weird and haunting and whimsical. Driven almost entirely by its score; visually it is quite dumbed down (Raymond Briggs both wrote and animated). It does such a good job, at least for me, at drawing the audience in and making you emotionally involved in the story. And the song, "Walking in the Air," is beautiful and a little (lot) creepy.. I'm sure you'll love it, though.

Birthday Wishlist.

Yes, I'm doing this. With the big 2-6 rapidly approaching (wah), I find myself wanting to go to one of two extremes: childhood or a more sophisticated version of the big girl I am. This sucks so I'm just gonna start talking about things the birthday girl wants.*

I want some pricey dishware. It's by no means within my means. If you know me (you don't) you know I like color. I'm the kind of person who doesn't really worry about coordinating her possessions in any way but more trusts that it will "work" together. Everything is colorful. EVERYthing has a pattern. EveryTHING is a standout item. But, in the effort to step it up in the "more sophisticated version of  the big girl I am" category, I am going white. Whaaa, white? What's happening? That's right: white. I don't know if it's the passing of our leader, Mr. Steve Jobs, or the desire for maybe something to look slightly less random.. but I want white dishware. My mother has a combination of these dishes in warm tones. Very home-y. Very high quality.

I like it because the color is white but the shapes are relaxed and the glaze is less around the rims so you can see through to the terracotta underneath. I think food would look beautiful on them. Look, I don't want to be greedy so let's start with four each of dinner plates, salad plates, cereal bowls, and condiment bowls.

This fabulous ring and my philosophy on life.

I've had a hankering for jade, bug motifs, and brooches. All in one

This Lulu Frost for JCrew bangle is retro and chic. It goes with everything!

These shoes haven't left my wishlist. I need them.

Last but certainly not least.

*subject to personal interpretation or if you see something awesome that you know I'd totally want..

Two sweet-ass things to check out.

Ever read T Magazine? Well, you should. It's pretty sweet. It is a virtual magazine by NY Times and is divided into seven sections: Women's Fashion, Men's Fashion, Design, Travel, Food, Culture, and Video. Here are my two favorite regular features in the Women's Fashion section..

This is a cool photo feature that that exhibits a model's face before and after make up. Kinda pisses you off a little though, because they all look good before, too. Sometimes better. Anyway, you can drag the line back and forth and see any portion of before and after. Badass.

There is a shoe right off the runway. I'm not really clear if this is a regular feature or just a regular feature during fashion weeks. Either way, I like it. I hope the former. They sort through all of the fashion shows and pick the most.. stand out shoe of the day. They are usually an awesomely beautiful pair of footwear. This one ain't my favorite, I'll be real with you. But usually, really cool. I'll probably get sued by T Magazine after I post this..

i miss my blog,

I want Wednesday.

Dammit. I found some good stuff. I seriously am quite excited about the following two artists I found on Etsy! Etsy will be the death of me, I swear. Days at a time are lost on that website. It's a very excellent place to spend hours.. I wouldn't really consider them lost :)

Ok so whoa. Numero Uno is Concrete Polish by Angela Monaco out of Philly. THIS woman knows what she's doin. Girlfriend knows her way around a ring! Dig. Here are a few items I want (need) real bad.

Segundo es Coco de Paris by E vdArend. It's all original watercolor on French 1920s vintage magazine print. The imagery is bizarre with an element of whimsy, or maybe vice versa. Either way it's a winning combo.
I'm from Horse Country and only recently have I begun to appreciate these humongous-but-not-as-scary-as-previously-thought animals.

Music is color. Color is light. Music is light?

Deer are so pretty. I also enjoy guns.

If I were to smoke, I'd definitely use a holder and wear a long strand of pearls at all times. Maybe in my old age. Fuck it. You're already old. You and I both know there'll be no tobacco.

If you ever see a zebra close up their pattern has surprising contrast. It's just black to white. No noise. I also like Fruit Stripe Gum. Where'd that go?

I don't mind telling you that I have a birthday coming up,

Milo Sun!

Meet Milo Sun. He is my new sun. (Milo from Milo and Otis and he is my son, my sunshine) Two days ago this little parcel of buff and cream geometrics came into my life like a ray of sunshine. My new kitty is just a little baby sweetie angel. It's been a whirlwind of emotions, I'll tell ya. I have waited and waited oh-so-patiently and I just knew. I knew it was my time. My time, dammit! My time to take on a project that I can't afford and don't understand! I am a grown lady and now I'm ready to become a grown cat lady. Jumping right in the deep end on this one.

 Mother-sun portrait, I.
My brown eyes met their golden complement in his sweet face.. Truly, I held another kitty while my true kitty counterpart slept, simply careless and ignoring me. I love a man who pays me no attention. Home he came and I've been happy ever since. Just delightful little surprises here and there but for the most part he is snuggly and lovey and spookative and energetic and sleepy and still very much a kitten. I'll be honest, the litter thing is not ideal. However, after weighing the options for seven (yes, seven) years since I left home, I feel the pros outweigh the cons at this point.

Now I just concentrate on whether he'll be a victim of infant death syndrome if I rollover on him in my sleep or if the slight whistle in his nose is pneumonia just waiting to pop up and screw up my life and bank account. I'm really worried about that nose whistle. What if he's not okay?! My mom said the rolling over on him death scenario is impossible but I'm not so sure, Mom. You underestimate the depth of his languor.

Good news is this extemporaneous change in lifestyle will probably lead to me being content enough with Milo to not try for anything else. So I guess we're at a plateau here. This is it. Milo Sun is enough. Could be a relief. Seriously though, I love him. LOVE HIM. I. CAN'T. STOP.
The whole world shifts when you have something/someone to give your love to.

bye!

Summer Under the Stars.

I'm late in writing this, I suppose, but it's still worth talking about. TCM's Summer Under the Stars is going on the whole month of August. Each day they show movies in the theme of one outstanding star. It's a great way to learn about classic film and see a good chunk of an actor's résumé in a single day. It's particularly great if you have a DVR of some sort so you can go through a day's films and simply record the ones you want to watch and you can get to them at your convenience. Phenomenal! The TCM website for this event is really cool, too.

This week I'm excited about Joan Crawford (tomorrow) and Burt Lancaster (Thursday)! There are SO many fantastic movies on! Can hardly contain myself. Check it out!

Must Own: entry one.

I've been thinking about compiling a Jayteewo's "Must Own" Product List, but I don't want to plan anymore so I'm just gonna get it poppin. I might change the format as I go. It will contain but is not limited to general brand loyalty, justifications, explanations, suggestions, opinions..
Here we go:

Clarisonic Skin Cleansing System. There are a few versions but frankly, I am a new owner of the MIA and it is more than satisfactory. You don't really need more than that. Plus it comes in a bunch of cute colors now that you can personalize if you buy on their website. It really does make a difference with your skin. Not having a medical degree, I am still unsure if my skin is better or if it just feels better. But it does feel better and you can plainly see all of the makeup it got off. And it makes you feel like you're being proactive about skin care! so that's an additional benefit. Mine is yellow :) If I had to do it over I'd got with sapphire blue.

The following are two I've mentioned before, but they deserve to be reorganized into this grouping because they really are the BEST.

Shu Umera Eyelash Curler. You can only buy them online now but they are worth it. Eyelashes are nothing without a curl, baby. Dispute it if you want to but you can't deny the affect a curled lash has on someone's face.

Tweezerman Slant Tweezers are the most excellent and sharpest tweezers in the land and they tweeze those brows and God knows what else like, whoa. Anything else is a waste of time. Why seek past perfect? I am really wanting this leopard pair!

jayteewo.

I want Wednesday.

I've found them. The perfect pair of black cat's eye sunglasses. But they are riiicch so I suspect I'll be wanting them for a while since I didn't win the Powerball last week. Son of a bitch. Tom Ford, why do you have to be so expensive and so sexual?! I want 'em. Not just bad, but real bad. Anyway. Here they are. I would obviously look so cute in them. And I know I'm a pushover, but I'm also open to them in Havana Tortoiseshell. Accepting donations because I'm sure the universe wants me to have them either way. K, thanks. Damn, I want them.

Winter Park Farmers' Market.

I've lived in Orlando for almost six months and stupidly (and lazily) have not visited the Winter Park Farmers' Market. At last I went yesterday and was pleasantly surprised. I returned with a bevy of wonderful foodstuffs and some special treasures, too. I indulged in an on-the-go breakfast of a warm raspberry/cream cheese croissant and fresh squeezed lemonade. From now on I will be going each Saturday because it's silly not to. I left with a big smile in my heart and probably on my face, though I couldn't tell you for sure because I didn't have a mirror.

Presently I am having a tawdry love affair with two of the treasures I got yesterday. 1) Bleu Cheese from Winter Park Dairy (Florida's first raw milk cheesemaker) and 2) Peach Lavender Jam from Sunchowder's Emporia. Whoa, now. This is some good shit. I should probably have someone watch over me or call to check in periodically to monitor my addiction. I am eating this stuff like it's my business, and they don't exactly go well together by the way, as you might imagine.. These two items are particularly notable because if you know me, and I doubt you do, I'm not a big jam or bleu person. In fact, I never eat either. But I felt like being naughty and experimental (or maybe it was the scorching sun that affected my judgment) so I was compelled to taste-test everything. Now I'm into it in a BIG way. Just wanted to let you know. You can visit the dairy and buy the jams online. Today I'll be listening to Edith Piaf and painting (and eating peach jam and Bleu cheese, eu). How wonderful. See ya.

au revoir,
jayteewo.

Obsessed.

You guys. I love my iPhone and I know I'm not alone on that but what I see too much of is people using cheap, shitty cases to "protect" their costly Apple expenditure. Whyyy? I have found that InCase makes the very best (and prettiest) Apple protective products. The catch, actually there are three: 1) one can never find the best of their product line anywhere but their damn website, 2) the products themselves are a little pricey, 3) they like to piss me off by charging too much shipping. (Websites that charge astronomical shipping amounts irritate the shit out of me because you know it doesn't cost them that much. If they must be that greedy with their profit margin, their rep would be much better if they tacked that amount onto the unit price and gave free shipping. It's a PR thing, you idiots.) HOWEVER, I will tell you that in spite of the three previously mentioned cons, the pros still are in the lead in that the products are just far superior to anything else on the market- I'm not even going to say "in my opinion."

My newest iPhone case (my fourth), and I do own their products for my Macbook as well, is the Incase Crystal Slider case in silver. It's so glittery! I love it. It's beautiful in purple, too. The last case I bought was in November therefore it lasted me nine months. Even after that period of time my gold bar case (that's what it looks like) still looks cute, the pink from underneath just started to show through. I'll keep it as a backup. If we do a little calculation here, this case cost me $45.89 after tax and shipping (I know) and it lasted nine months, that's ~$5/ month. That ain't bad, ya'll. You're protecting a several hundred dollar investment after all. And I swear, I drop that bitch all the time and no broken iPhone yet, baby. Worth it. See? (Ooo, I just realized this is kind of boring.)

see ya,
jayteewo.

Instagram.

I'm obsessed with Instagram. Are you? Well, you ought to be. It's an instantly gratifying (and free) photography app. Dig it. I like it because it's a fun alternative to other social networking mediums and it has tons of filters. There is the option to share on those other mediums though, so you're never out of the loop! Here are some of my favorite instagr.am (proper spelling) photos as of late.
