The carryall clutch.

I'm going crazy for the non-descript, plain leather pouch clutches that seem to be a trend right now. I've purchased my first one: the American Apparel Leather Carry-all Pouch. After agonizing over the color and size, I went with carmel in medium and I instantly regretted not going Large. Rather than deal with AA's annoying online merch return policy, I'm keeping it (that's what they want!) as I suspect I'll want another anyway. I do like it a lot, though; very roomy and it's cool because there are SO many colors and you don't get to choose your zipper color- I ended up with navy. Pretty! AA has three sizes in the leather, plus metallic and suede versions.

I like this style because you can fold it over or just hold it as is. It's literally, a rectangular leather pouch with a zipper on one side. I think it's classy and I've seen some pretty cool versions of it, such as the below BEAUTYful metallic one from Gift Shop Brooklyn that has pockets inside. I also included a picture of the larger one she makes in bleach tie-dye. LOVE the juxtaposition of the sweet yet edgy top portion with a conservative, rustic leather base.

I truly think in my heart of hearts that if you are going to participate in this clutch trend, you need to own a plain black one. This one is much larger and perfect to fill that staple need. She has some very pretty colored suede ones, also.

2012 Golden Globes fashion.

Who knows the answer to "why have I taken this long to write a post on the Golden Globes?" so don't worry about it. The point is, I'm doing it now. I'm here for you now.

I made a note to write this post when I saw Reese Witherspoon's dress. She had the second aha! fashion moment of her career, I think (first being the 2007 yellow Nina Ricci dress). Good for her, I love Reesey. The other four ladies at the 2012 Golden Globes in my top five are Charlize Theron, Michelle Williams, Salma Hayek, and Claire Danes.

source.
Reese wore Zac Posen (meow) and she looked really happy. Red is really working on her. I like how dramatized the sweetheart, almost geometric when paired with the seams at her waist that guide the hourglass shape. Very pretty and non-stuffy hair.

source.
Charlize Theron was muy elegant in her Christian Dior. I'm so obsessed with that light pink, peachy neutral. It is so feminine and old glamour; always going to work. The neckline is gorgeous and I like how it would have been easy to put the embellishment in the center but Dior placed it slightly left to connect the ruffle.

source.
And honestly, I liked Michelle Williams' overall look than I did just her Jason Wu dress on its own. But it is pretty and unique and appears to have a nice texture, which I always enjoy.

source.
Same for Salma Hayek. She has to go on this list cuz she's such a hot chick. Gucci had the job of keeping her girls up all night. Lookin good.

source.
Where have you been, Claire Danes? Oh, you've totally been on a television show that's relatively popular and I've just overlooked it? Oh, ok. That's cool. I must say, this J. Mendel backless number is probably her best red carpet look ever. You have to admit it's getting better, it's getting better all the time.

Getting to know you.

When you are getting to know someone there are many methods by which to go about it. I was thinking recently that it is so intimate to share home videos or childhood photos with a new person in your life, whether they are of romantic or platonic interest. Showing someone photos/videos of your past is like trying to tell them who you are as a whole. There are things that can't be explained with words. Surely the above handsome little.. girl could not be explained with just words. It's risking the judgement or feeling safe enough with someone that you are comfortable revealing your whole self to them. Videos, particularly. "No, my face isn't crooked, it's just that my mom cut my bangs," or "yes, I've always had climber's legs." It's a relief to get to this step. Here I am, all of me, take it or leave it cuz it's all I've got.

Happy Holidays.

MAC eyeshadows: Humid & Sumptuous Olive
I'm not really in the Christmas spirit yet. Actually, the "Christmas spirit" is a humongoucliché. Who really gives a shit? I really only think it's nice because I get to be around my family.. which I do actually look forward to. Other than that I don't hate a good meal and I do like to sing the Mariah Carey Christmas album at the top of my lungs (I sound exactly like her). So basically I like the holidays but I'm not one for the anticipation.
top knot of friend
I went with uniform wrapping this year: brown craft wrapping paper, 3/4" glittery red ribbon and the occasional gold-striped Japanese washi tape detail. I think it's beautiful and simple. I just want to look at the mountain of presents forever. Pretty! I like to challenge myself sometimes when I wrap: i.e. wrap from a weird angle, combine scrap pieces of wrapping paper and put them together to wrap a single gift, using the same concept for ribbon, etc. And ya know how you buy Christmas cards every year and always have a few left over each time? What the hell are you supposed to do with a single holiday card on it's own? This year the VERY few people who are getting cards from me will be getting a mixed bag. No one really cares what they look like anyway, it's more a confirmation that someone considers you in their "I care" category.
If I understood CNN Español correctly yesterday, the average American spends 60% more than they can afford on Christmas shit. I think I spend less each year. I just wanna eat, man.
G-free pasta. pine nuts. olives. garlic. parm. espinacas. tomatoes.

6 Questions.

1. Who are these people who watch (I hardly want to credit it on my blog) 'Dancing with the Stars'? It looks like the stupidest show ever. I don't want to watch a professional dancer drag fat he-shes across a dance floor and then have theatrical heads say shit I don't care about.

2. Why don't miniature cats exist if miniature dogs do? This is just science, guys.

3. Do you ever really know a person?

4. Why do we have to work 8 (technically like 10 if we include commute and time for lunch that I have to spend away from home, not to mention getting ready) hours a day? Seems like a really large portion of our lives.

5. Like, I get how babies are made but, how are babies made?

6. How does a beard know not to take over your whole face?

best wishes,

Must Own: entry one.

I've been thinking about compiling a Jayteewo's "Must Own" Product List, but I don't want to plan anymore so I'm just gonna get it poppin. I might change the format as I go. It will contain but is not limited to general brand loyalty, justifications, explanations, suggestions, opinions..
Here we go:

Clarisonic Skin Cleansing System. There are a few versions but frankly, I am a new owner of the MIA and it is more than satisfactory. You don't really need more than that. Plus it comes in a bunch of cute colors now that you can personalize if you buy on their website. It really does make a difference with your skin. Not having a medical degree, I am still unsure if my skin is better or if it just feels better. But it does feel better and you can plainly see all of the makeup it got off. And it makes you feel like you're being proactive about skin care! so that's an additional benefit. Mine is yellow :) If I had to do it over I'd got with sapphire blue.

The following are two I've mentioned before, but they deserve to be reorganized into this grouping because they really are the BEST.

Shu Umera Eyelash Curler. You can only buy them online now but they are worth it. Eyelashes are nothing without a curl, baby. Dispute it if you want to but you can't deny the affect a curled lash has on someone's face.

Tweezerman Slant Tweezers are the most excellent and sharpest tweezers in the land and they tweeze those brows and God knows what else like, whoa. Anything else is a waste of time. Why seek past perfect? I am really wanting this leopard pair!

5 things I do in an interview.

1. My signature handshake: the first handshake with my interviewer, he/she extends his/her hand and I, first, with one, shaky movement raise my right hand to brush my hair out of my face and, second, bestow that same shaky hand to my colleague, as they look on, perplexed.

2. Commit to more than I'm prepared to deliver on: "Sooo.. you have managed projects like this before?" -"Oh yah, totally."

3. Not ask the questions I really want to ask.

4. Sweat: obvious. BIG problem.

5. Feel positive about the way it went, then feel nervous that I'm too confident and start feeling negative, and finally come out of the negativity and into a not quite positive but not quite negative state of reflection.

Things.

I can't seem to get enough fruit lately. My body must need it.

Peaches and Pineapple are my favorite fruits.

Bradley Cooper is smokin' hot.

Accessories are more important to me than clothes.

I want to be an interior decorator.

I love men with beards (have I said that before? well it deserves repeating.)

Kurt Vonnegut is one of my favorite authors.

I want a kitty (that I know I've said before).

I love lipstick.

I collect original artwork.

I would live in Denver, CO if those winters weren't such a bitch.

peace,
jayteewo.

Things.

Just because you're a dude doesn't mean you don't have to tend to your feet.
Feet in general are pretty gross.
The only people whose feet don't gross me out are those of my two sisters.
I recently switched all of my underwear and pajama-wear to all black everything.
There are two kinds of faces: one kind that looks better from the side and one that looks better head-on.
I have a head-on face.
At the age of 25 I bought my first pair of short shorts and permitted a little young tummy to peak out every now and then.
The only tweezers that work are the Tweezerman Slant.
My eyes are black.
I can do anything I set my mind to.
I don't lotion my legs enough.
Gross.
Shaving is a pain in the ass.
First chance I get, I'm goin laser.
I never let anyone go near my eyebrows.
I'm an eyebrow snob.
Coconut in ice cream is worthless if it's not toasted.
As far as eyelashes go, it's more about the curl than the length.
The only eyelash curler worth having is by Shu Umera.
I think I think Joaquin Phoenix is attractive.
I need a facial once a month.
Most estheticians are pussies.
Lately, I don't feel like drinking at all.
Well, unless it's champagne.
Thank God no one can see me when I'm home alone.
I wish I were a badass like my little sister.
She takes cool photos (see above 3).

truly,
jayteewo.

Rebrand.

Things are happening.

I renamed this blog. It is now called the life & times of jayteewo (me!) I like it better. I also changed the URL so be mindful of that. I won't be changing it again, I promise. The banner is different, too. Do you like it?! This all started when my hard drive failed last week and I lost everything on it. I'm still dealing with the heartbreak. NO. I did not back up my computer. Gosh. I will do that hence forth so stop bringing it up. It created a lot of problems for me (failure to plan is planning to fail) so I decided as I'm starting over with everything else, I'd make this blog just a little better while I'm at it! I'm so glad you're as excited about it as I am. Let me know what you think. For real this time. Unless you aren't into it. But do it anyway. Thanks.

best,
jayteewo.

How do I look?

With many talents am I blessed. These include: advanced procrastination abilities, pesto-making, picture-hanging, zoning out, general daydreaming, making my apartment smell great, stretching of truth or total avoidance, and champagne drinking. These are all fine and well but included in this skill set is not web design. I'm working on it. But I think this blog is looking better all the time, don't you? It's more me now, which is who you're paying to read about after all. Technically no money was exchanged but you get the idea. Things will continue to change until I get it just right and then I'll probably change it again. So if you think of anything that will make the experience easier or more enjoyable, holla at me. I aim to please.

bye,
